Flights suspended in Birmingham Airport drama
An investigation was under way this afternoon after a plane over-ran the runway at Birmingham International Airport as it touched down.
A spokesperson for the airport confirmed an incident had happened involving a plane just after 1pm.
The spokesperson said that it involved a Monarch flight arriving at the airport from Nice.
A spokesperson for Birmingham Airport said in a statement: "We can confirm that an incident involving Monarch flight ZB467 arriving from Nice and operated by AURELA Airlines occurred at 13.11 this afternoon.
"At the present time, airfield services are assisting the airline crew.
"Flights are currently suspended. More information will be provided as soon as it becomes available." A picture was posted on Twitter, taken by
Alex Hall who said he was on his way to a job interview. It showed a plane on the grass. He posted the picture just after the incident.
There were no reports of any injuries.
Traveller Mike Woods was at the airport waiting for a flight to Dublin.
He said: "No one knows what's going on. We've just been told all flights are delayed and we are waiting for information."
The airport immediately suspended all flights while an investigation takes place.
