The grandfather of a two-year-old girl from Shropshire found dead in a swimming pool while holidaying in Spain today hit back over reports her mother had fallen asleep in a hammock moments before the tragedy.

He said media speculation surrounding the death of Isabella May Crump, from Ludlow, was 'totally inaccurate' and was causing the family added distress.

The toddler was found in the pool at a villa in San Miguel de Salinas, near Torrevieja, Alicante, on Wednesday – the day before her family were due to fly back.

The toddler was on holiday with mother Deborah Ridgway, 26, her partner Patrick Crump, 37, and her four-year-old sister. They were staying at a villa owned by Isabella's grandparents.

The grandfather, who did not wish to be named, said: "Towards the end of the afternoon, all of the family had all gone back inside. At some point, Izzy has gone back outside unknown to everybody."

On the media reports, he added: "These reports are untrue. The whole family, including Deborah and Izzy, had gone back inside."
