Shropshire Star readers can now get the real story from their favourite newspaper – via their computer desktop.

All editions of the UK's fifth biggest selling regional newspaper can be accessed on PCs via the latest page turning software.

Readers can sign up for a subscription to the service to get the latest edition of the leading title for Shropshire and Mid Wales within minutes of publication.

The state-of-the-art technology allows users to turn the pages of each edition, zooming in to a story to get even closer.

A selection of stories are complemented each day with video uploads, allowing readers to click to watch footage which adds to our in-depth news and sport coverage.

The archive lets readers view recent back issues or select specific pages to jump through editions.

A smart search facility means readers can use keywords to find the story they want either from the latest edition or the papers in their archive.

Users can now also save pages to their device, share with friends on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, or send articles via e-mail.

Shropshire Star editor Keith Harrison said: "The Shropshire Star has always led the way with new technology and this desktop service continues that tradition. Whether it is coverage of news, sport, business or opinion, readers know they can get the best read around with the Star, in print and online."

Head of digital William Beavis said the new service was "the perfect way to digest the Shropshire Star's excellent content".

He said: "It replicates page-turning experience which so many readers enjoy, allowing readers to get the real news via their desktop."

The new service comes after the Shropshire Star's app for iPad and iPhone users was launched in January.

Hundreds of readers have taken out subscriptions, with many leaving positive comments on iTunes and the Appstore.

The new desktop service requires a separate subscription to the app.

Whether it is via the app or the desktop, users pay £3.99 per month or £1.49 to subscribe. If you only want a single edition, a new feature allows you pay 69p for a one-off purchase.

App users can take advantage of a free seven-day trial before they commit. Desktop customers can view a sample edition before they sign up.
