A Shropshire hotelier says it was a 'great honour' to have actor David Tennant and fellow cast members stay at his hotel while they filmed scenes for a new movie nearby.

The Doctor Who star, along with actors Marc Wootton and Jason Watkins, were staying at the Sweeney Hall Hotel, near Oswestry, last week. The actor's stay at the hotel caused quite a stir with guests and staff alike.

Tennant even took time to pose for a quick photograph with staff members during his visit.

Sweeney Hall Hotel owner Sean Evans said it had been a thrill for everyone at the hotel to see the actors.

He said: "David Tennant, Marc Wootton and Jason Watkins have been staying here along with Stevie Smith who is involved in hair and make-up for the film.

"It has been a great honour to have them here and a lot of our guests have been taking a second glance.

"They have been fine and they have kept a low profile. They have been eating in the bar where it is quieter rather than in the restaurant where there are more people."

The cast were in the area to film scenes for upcoming film Nativity 2.

Last week the cast and camera crews were filming in various places around the Shropshire/Welsh border including in the village of Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant.

They have also filmed at Llanrhaeadr Waterfall, Lake Vyrnwy and Bala as part of a plot which sees pupils embarking on a school trip.

Sean's wife Kara Kynaston-Evans said the hotel had played host to many famous figures.

"We have had Apollo 13 actor Bill Paxton and actor Rob Lowe.

"We have had Roger Moore's daughter Deborah stay and it was wonderful to hear his lovely voice when he called to speak to his daughter.

"Mission Impossible's Ingeborga Dapkunaite has been here and we had Big Brother's Chantelle and Preston while they were together."
