Friends of a tragic Shropshire teenager who died in a shed fire almost 20 years ago have set up a Facebook page in his memory.

Liam Wright, who lived in Brookside, Telford, died in the mysterious blaze next to Madeley Ski Slope on September 10, 1990. Liam's sister Deborah Mason, who lives in Warwickshire, said his friends had now set up a Facebook page called Liam Wright xx 10 September 1990.

Mrs Mason, posting on the Facebook site, said: "God bless everyone who has taken the time to write their memories of Liam on this page.

"I am deeply touched at the tributes and some of the comments have made me smile.

"Liam was Bright and Beautiful and he remains close by and keeping a watchful eye on the proceedings."

Liam's mother, Faith Wright, said in another post: "Thank you so much for all your tributes, I am very touched. Isn't Facebook great for keeping people together?"

An inquest the year after Liam's death recorded an open verdict, leaving his family none the wiser about how the19-year-old died.

Last month detectives reopened the case and arrested a man in his late 30s on suspicion of murder. He was later released without charge.

An anonymous letter was also sent to detectives and a number of new leads are now being followed up.

Detective Inspector Paul Knight, of West Mercia Police's major incident unit in Stourport, said police were particularly keen to speak to the author of the letter.

He said that the investigation into any suspicious death was never closed and, even given the passage of time, detectives would continue to examine the events of the night Liam died in an effort to find out what happened.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police in Telford on 0300 333 3000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
