Letter: The decision to blast a further 3,000,000 tons of rock from the heart of Haughmond Hill, near Shrewbury, which is a local beauty spot, is a tragedy.
The American-owned company responsible for the application says it will be used to resurface roads; maybe partly – but the vast majority of it will be used in the continuing concretion of this small island.
There are dozens of quarries nationwide with similar outputs.
Come the next general election, vote for a party which will restrict these big companies' activities or we will suffer more flooding of homes, etc.
