For many months now the roadworks in Shrewsbury town centre have been disrupting business and customers. The latest work in St Mary's Street has to be seen to be believed.

With all the latest machinery the contractors' pace of work is abysmal and, in fact, could be completed more quickly by hand. I understand that soon this area will be closed for eight weeks due to the fact that the contractors and the council are incapable of planning a work schedule.

Our councillors appear to have no interest whatsoever in this situation. They seem quite happy for many thousands of pounds of our money to be wasted on these ridiculous schemes.

The time is long overdue for serious questions to be asked as to why this work is necessary, for I cannot see any improvements at all. I do hope the Chamber of Commerce will take this matter up with all those concerned.

We are just a few weeks away from spring and visitors will be arriving only to be faced with chaos which means they will not stay.

So, wake up all you councillors, get your act together, and stop this disruption.
