Christmas market has star spirit

And so, bedecked with tinsel and full of Christmas spirit, and with the words "There is no Christmas Market" I bade farewell to my loving wife and set off into Shifnal town.

And so, bedecked with tinsel and full of Christmas spirit, and with the words "There is no Christmas Market" I bade farewell to my loving wife and set off into Shifnal town.

"I will get us a turkey" I thought to myself as I trod that cold, lonely walk, a vision of feathered turkeys hanging from some Christmas stall fresh in my mind's eye.

"With two year's planning, the council will have thought to have a Christmas market" I thought to myself.

As I walked down historic Church Street I dreamt of a Christmas past with live geese running around a small corral, or ducks and turkey hanging from the farmer's cart.

I could see a trader cooking hot chestnuts on an open fire, a street entertainer to cheer the crowds as they shopped and, of course, the great man himself, Tom Jones! Yes, then I awoke to see the real Shifnal this year, Tom and a sidekick from the local council shaking people's hands and wishing them a Merry Christmas.

Tom, it was lovely to share your merriment, but surely the council could have come up with something better than that? (Thank goodness they have never been allowed to have anything to do with those wonderful Christmas lights) Merry Christmas Shifnal and a great big Ho Ho Ho.

Mr B Steven, Shifnal
