The 41-year-old, who won Olympic gold in the Barcelona games in 1992, spent about 90 minutes with more than 20 children and their parents at the town's Castle Hall.

She led the fun activities and helped explain the importance of exercise from an early age.

Sally said: "It was a great day. It is the first time I have been to this part of the world and it is a very nice town.

"The Tumble Tots group is great for getting young kids to become active. It is one of the areas we need to address and make it a way of life. The activities we did were fun and exciting.

"My three boys have all been to Tumble Tots and I have been involved for about five years. I sometimes go into primary schools and it's quite scary how some children can't even catch a ball or don't have any basic skills."

David Hunt, head of sales and marketing at Tumble Tots, said: "The whole point of the week was to encourage children to exercise and to encourage their parents to get involved. Having Sally there helped raise publicity and awareness and she really believes in what we are doing."
