Environmentally friendly log cabins are being built as part of a scheme to help boost tourism in north Shropshire.

Nine traditional log cabins are being built at Brynallt Country Park in Welsh Frankton, near Ellesmere, as part of a scheme to provide more self-catering accommodation.

A range of two and three-bedroomed cabins made from British grown 10-inch cedar logs will be constructed using traditional building methods.

Developer Martyn Cordingley, a qualified forestry manager, said: "These are real log cabins and very much aimed at the top end of the market, ideal for a wide range of holiday visitors such as walkers, cyclists, fishing enthusiasts or those just looking for a restful or romantic break.

"From our research it is evident that there is a lack of similar self catering facilities in the north Shropshire area."

The scheme is set to be finished by 2009.
