Virgin on the ridiculous
Anyone interested in journalism, here is a tip, writes our News Blogger, David Burrows. Never, ever, do anything embarrassing. It'll come back and bite you on the a . . . backside. As my colleague found out to her cost today.
My regular reader will remember my tale of woe when I ran out of fuel during the snowstorms earlier this year and my colleague Vickie's less than successful attempts to rescue me by bringing me a fuel can. With no fuel in it.
Well today was Vickie's last day. She has sold her soul to the Devil of public relations. During her leaving speech, that incident, and many others, was brought up.
But far more embarrassing was the video we played to wrap up the speech.
During a drunken social event with several other journalists Vickie performed a unique version of Madonna's Like a Virgin (insert joke here).
Some unscrupulous journo filmed it on their mobile. That same journalist then transferred it to a photographer's laptop. That photographer then played it for all the staff at the head office to see.
For anyone wondering, yes it was me who filmed it.
Vickie's official leaving do is tomorrow. I won't say where . . . but look for a short redhead murdering a Madonna song and that will be her.
