Advanced driver check code
If Steve Phipps (Letters, October 9 ) is teaching advanced driving for the Institute of Advanced Motoring I suggest, very strongly, that he checks his highway code. The speed limit on motorways and dual carriageways is, unless otherwise posted, 70mph.
That includes the maximum speed permissible whilst overtaking. It is NOT and never has been 77mph. I have passed both motorcycle and car advanced driving tests and also taught advanced car driving. Its imperative that when teaching advanced driving you impart facts not fiction .
Whilst I can not claim to have never broken a speed limit I do at least know what they are.
The very nature of the claim "Ive never broken a speed limit" must therefore be incorrect if he has driven at 77mph in order to overtake. That's a double whammy Mr Phipps.
