Notice on skip is not helpful
Frequent users of the plastic bottle recycling skip at Meole Brace will have seen Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council's notice on it that reads "Come on you lazy lot! Tops off and squash the bottles!".
Now I'm sure it was intended light heartedly but SABC really ought to stop treating people like idiots.
It doesn't say on the skip whether you can put the tops in or not. Can SABC please clarify? Are we supposed to remove the collar that keeps the top on? And what about the labels?
As I make the effort to rinse out my bottles and to store them until I have enough to make the trip worthwhile, I do object to SABC labelling me "lazy".
Someone has written on the notice "Do you want the bottles or not?" and I totally agree.
This brings home the fact that SABC does not make it easy to recycle. Vague instructions on the skip, which is currently overflowing, aren't helpful. It would be so much easier if the fortnightly SITA service collected the bottles.
If SABC doesn't improve recycling rates soon there will be a fine from Europe, which will simply go on the council tax.
