EU carries on despite vetoes

We were all told by Keith Vaz MP that the EU Constitution was "no more important than the Beano" but nevertheless there was a huge hoo-ha when French and Dutch voters rejected it, and Tony Blair jumped at the chance to deny Britons their chance of a referendum.

Since then, the EU has been going ahead anyway with the key provisions of the Constitution. At Tampere in Finland later this month it seems very likely that Blair will sign away our veto on the general adoption of the foreign justice system, Corpus Juris.

Under these proposals, foreign police could come here with impunity; they could arrest anyone they wished on a minimum of evidence for something which may not even be a crime in this country.

Suspects could be held for as long as the police think necessary or worthwhile. Remember the plane-spotters imprisoned in Greece? Under these provisions the Greek police could just come over here and get them.

This system is different from our own, we should all be writing to our MPs and to Blair to protest.

There's also no reason why you shouldn't write to the Queen - I shall! There must come a point when even she and her advisors begin to wonder if something might be dreadfully wrong.

It'll be too late afterwards!
