Post Office intended to move

So there you have it. Post Office Ltd hatched their plan for the move of Shrewsbury's Crown Post Office without any consultation with any of Shrewsbury's elected representatives or even the people most affected by the move.

Our MP is quoted as being "disappointed", our council leader is "furious and appalled" and our chief executive is "furious" - as well they might be.

They can now see for real how they and their positions are being sidelined and decisions which will affect all our daily lives are being takenÊas a result of EU regulations and directives, namely in this case 97/67/EC, Postal Service Regulations 1999 and Postal Services Act 2000, EC659/1999 and Ref. No.252/2002.Ê The combination of these regulations put the Post Office in a strait jacket, compelling it to cut costs and hence services.

If further proof were needed that the whole thing was cut and dried before they announced the plan, the builders began the work of setting up the new site in WH Smith in advance of the meeting arrangedÊfor August 24 between Byron Roberts and our local representatives, under the guise of listening to our objections. Nobody else in the country could get planning permission and get the builders in that quickly!
