Plans for 187 new homes lodged

Developers behind a £500 million expansion of Lawley have submitted the first phase of their plans to Telford & Wrekin council chiefs. Lawley Developer Group has applied for planning permission to build 187 new homes near Newdale roundabout, between Arleston Lane and Lawley Drive.

The scheme is part of a wider redevelopment of the area that will eventually see more than 3,000 homes created in Lawley.

Bosses today said that phase 1a would include two, three, four and five-bedroom homes. There would be a mix of apartments, mews properties and detached and semi-detached houses.

It is hoped the homes will appeal to buyers at all ends of the market, with a number of affordable houses expected to be included in the final proposal.

Neville Stebbing, LDG director, said today: "We have submitted an outline planning application to the Borough of Telford & Wrekin for the first phase of development at Lawley, known as Phase 1a.

"The application applies to the north west of Newdale roundabout, between Arles-ton Lane and Lawley Drive."

The expansion will eventually create one of England's largest new communities. It will house 10,000 people - making it the biggest single extension of any town in England - and will also include offices, restaurants, bars, a primary school, parkland and shops.
