Shropshire Star

Review: Joe Brown at Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury

He may be entering his eighth decade, but veteran rock and roll star Joe Brown showed he still had the energy of a man half his age when he performed a two-hour show for hundreds of fans in Shropshire.

The singer-songwriter and his five-piece band, including son Pete, gave their all at a sell-out Theatre Severn show in Shrewsbury last night.

They belted out his hits as well as timeless classics, rockabilly, gospel, country, folk and rock and roll.

And the performance was interwoven with 71-year-old Joe's lively delivery and humorous reminiscences of a career that began in the 1950s beat boom and led him to be a star of the stage and screen.

Operations manager at Theatre Severn David Jack said the show was a great success. He said: "It was terrific. It was a fantastic, quality performance, the sound quality was as good as anything we have and he was singing for two hours.

"The audience got a mix of different styles of music as well, there was something for everyone including covers of Elvis songs, country songs and rock and roll."

Joe Brown recently received MOJO magazine's coveted Outstanding Contribution To Music Award and continues to play at packed theatres across the country.

He performed to a sell-out audience at Theatre Severn in 2010 and last night it was no different with more than 600 people in the audience.
