If handbags could talk this one would tell a few tales.

It was owned by fashion icon Kate Moss and it is being sold to raise funds for a county care home.

Other items going under than hammer at Hendra House in Ludlow include an Arsenal football shirt signed by manager Arsene Wenger.

"We got hold of it though a family member of a resident at the home who has contacts at Arsenal," said care home manager Vince Burmingham.

But the centrepiece of tomorrow's auction will be the Moss Longchamps bag designed by the supermodel herself.

Miss Moss has a friend with a relative living at the residential home in Sandpits Road.

It has become a tradition for the model and fashion designer to give a personal item to be auctioned off at the home's annual fete. Last year she donated a handbag which fetched £260 for the home, while the auction raised more than £2,000 for the residents' comfort fund.

Mr Burmingham said the fete had been going for 13 years and Miss Moss has been donating items for about half that time.

The fete at Hendra House starts at 2pm and will be opened by Marjorie Waite, a Ludlow resident and former headmistress who will be 100 years old next month.

Anyone wishing to bid for an auction item before the fete can contact Mr Burmingham on vince@hendrahouse.co.uk or call the home on (01584) 873041.
