Shrewsbury's first boutique hotel has closed suddenly.

A notice at the door of The Silverton in Frankwell says it is "closed until further notice".

The hotel opened in 2011 after undergoing a £400,000 refurbishment.

It is on the site of the former Shropshire Dairies and its opening created 20 jobs.

The seven-bedroom hotel, which also had a restaurant and bar, is currently up for rent at a rate of £35,000 per year.

Nobody at the hotel was available for comment and it is not clear when the business may reopen.

Last year The Silverton featured on the Channel 4 show hit Four in a Bed in which manager/owners Donna Miles and David Cheshire took on three other bed and breakfast owners over four days.

It also hit the headlines earlier this year when a couple who had enjoyed a romantic meal discovered an offensive name on their restaurant receipt.

Victoria Whittle posted a photograph of the receipt online and it went viral.

The owners said they were "mortified" at what was a "genuine mistake".
