The guidebook, which has traditionally been available only to visitors attending tours of the hall, has now been made available online to allow more people to explore the research and history connected with the site.

The move comes after increased public interest in Soulton Hall, including recent discussions in Parliament which highlighted the estate’s architectural importance, heritage significance and links to Shakespearean history and 16th-century England.

The digital edition is available through the Ko-fi platform for £5 and is aimed at local residents, historians and enthusiasts around the world who want to learn more about the discoveries and stories connected with the estate.

The Ashton family, who care for Soulton Hall, said demand for guided access has grown beyond current tour capacity, prompting the decision to make the publication more widely available while work continues to expand heritage access.

Built in the 16th century by polymath Sir Rowland Hill, Soulton Hall contains a range of historic features, including geometric, mathematical and classical design elements, as well as the unique Rithmomachia (“Philosophers’ Game”) floor and connections to Shakespeare’s As You Like It.

The family said further research and publications are planned as work continues to explore the estate’s history.

Proceeds from the digital guidebook will support ongoing heritage conservation and accessibility projects at Soulton Hall.

The digital edition of “Sermons in Stones” is available to purchase online at: ko-fi.com/s/41d74779c3, with further information about the estate, its history and visitor access available through the official Soulton Hall website.
