Linford Christie (1986)
After winning the 200m at the World Indoors in Madrid earlier in the year Christie claimed his first major outdoor medal with victory in the 100m in Stuttgart.
He won in 10.15 seconds ahead of East Germany’s Steffen Bringmann
and Bruno Marie-Rose of France.
Britain’s fastest man defended his title in 1990 and 1994 while also, famously, claiming Olympic 100m gold in 1992. He failed a drugs test in 1999, although has always denied wrongdoing.
Darren Campbell (1998)
The sprinter’s first major individual medal came in Budapest when he took the European 100m crown.
He won in 10.04 seconds ahead of team-mate Dwain Chambers and Greece’s Haralabos Papadias.
A 4x100m relay gold followed at the Europeans while he also won relay gold at the Athens Olympics and claimed silver in the 200m.
James Dasaolu (2014)
Dasaolu – Britain’s joint second fastest man with Zharnel Hughes – won his first and only major individual gold in the Europeans 100m in Zurich.
Winning in a time of 10.06 seconds he beat two-time defending champion Christophe Lemaitre.
A 4x100m relay gold at the Euros two years later followed but he pulled out of the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast this year due to an injury.
