Catalans loose forward Greg Bird has suspension reduced on appeal

The veteran Australian will miss the French side’s three remaining Super 8s fixtures.

Catalans Dragons loose forward Greg Bird has had his four-match ban reduced to three matches on appeal.

The veteran Australian forward pleaded guilty to a dangerous throw on Halifax winger Ben Heaton during his side’s 24-0 victory in Sunday’s Qualifiers clash at the Shay.

However, Bird challenged the severity of the charge and a Rugby Football League independent operational rules tribunal agreed to amend it from grade D to C and cut the suspension to three games while upholding the £300 fine.

It means Bird will still miss all three of the relegation-threatened Dragons’ remaining Super 8s fixtures, starting with the visit of Featherstone to Perpignan on Saturday, but he will be able to play in the Million Pound Game on September 30 – if his club are involved.
