Jacobs hits two crackers as Newtown make it four on the spin
Newtown bounced back from their midweek humbling in the Nathaniel MG Cup against Llandudno - as Louis Jacobs was the two goal hero in a 3-1 victory over Mold Alexandra.
The Robins came out on the wrong side in a midweek nine goal thriller against Llandudno - in a game that saw them race into a two goal lead.
But they returned to winning ways in the Cymru North - and made it four league victories on the bounce in North Wales.
Ironically, summer signing Jacobs had been due to start on the bench but with Jojo Harries forced to withdraw through injury, the forward was thrown into the side and it took him just two minutes to get on the scoresheet.
He curled in a superb free kick from the edge of the box to hand the visitors a perfect start.
Conditions at Alyn Park were difficult for both sides - with Newtown having to deal with early aerial pressure and they did so thanks to an impressive display at the back from experienced defender Kieran Mill-Evans.
Having weathered a bit of an early storm, they went into the break two up as Steff Jones headed a ball back across goal for Jacobs to fire in his and Newtown's second.
However, the lead was slashed in half just two minutes into the second period when Harry Cartwright turned the ball home for the hosts.
And the almost handed Mold an equaliser 25 minutes from time when Aidan McCann's clearance almost ended up in his own net - but Dave Jones produced a sharp save to keep it out.
At the other end, Mills-Evans headed over as the Robins went in search of a second, before Jacobs went close and midfielder Robbie Evans saw a goal disallowed for a push.
Mold were still in the game and passed up a huge chance to level a minute from the end of normal time - with Owen Cordiner only able to direct a header straight at Jones.
The third Newtown goal did come in stoppage time as a dangerous ball into the box from Jacob's case a scramble in the box and Findlay Starkey-Jones was quickest to react as he nodded home to wrap up the points for the Robins.
Robins boss Nathan Leonard hailed his side's display in tricky conditions - and insisted they could have easily crumbled having conceded an early second half goal.
He said: "It was a very good response.
"As a player and manager I know it is never easy to come here, and we had to play to the conditions.
"There was not much in it before we scored against the run of play and fair play to Louis, they were two great finishes.
"We talked at half time about tidying up a bit and playing percentages and then we go and concede an awful goal.
"Fair play to the lads, we could have wobbled after Tuesday after losing a poor goal, but they did really well to settle down and we were a real threat down the sides and it was a strong second half display.
"We have not got the biggest squad in the world with a lot of youngsters on the bench and we have lost key players like Simon Spender and Greg Draper, so fair play to them all and to see the youngsters come on and show good energy is all you can ask."
