Fabio Silva - A Wolves timeline

He was described as a 'teenage wonderkid' and people at Porto compared his ability as a youngster to that of Christiano Ronaldo, who had come through the youth system there.

Wolves chairman Jeff Shi claimed the youngster had the 'potential to be a generational talent' but it is safe to say, his time at Molineux never really got going.

When Silva first arrived at the club Raul Jimenez was the main man and the plan was for the youngster to develop in the slipstream of the Wolves number nine.

But Jimenez suffered a horrific fractured skull at Arsenal in November 2020 and Silva found himself thrust into the first-team picture sooner than anticipated.

After making his debut in Wolves' 1-0 EFL Cup defeat to Stoke, he went on to make 37 appearances in his first season scoring four goals – including netting twice against local rivals Albion.

His second season at Molineux saw him continue to struggle to adapt to the demands of the Premier League and he picked up more yellow cards than he did goals.

Out of his 26 appearances that term, 16 of those were from the bench with only six coming as Premier League starts. The others were in the domestic cup competitions.

He picked up one booking as he failed to score at all.

Silva signed a new contract in the summer of 2022 keeping him with Wolves until 2026 before heading out on loan Anderlecht.

And he did well during his spell in Belgium, scoring 11 times during his 30 appearances across all competitions. But the team struggled and he was recalled before being sent out to Dutch club PSV Eindhoven.

He bagged four goals in 14 appearances for PSV before returning to Wolves.

Silva was handed the number nine shirt following Jimenez's move to Fulham in the summer, but he has failed to force his way into the starting line up under boss Gary O'Neil as his Molineux career stalled once more.

His last appearance was in the 2-1 defeat away to Sheffield United, which saw the Portuguese in tears on the pitch at the end of the game after giving away a stoppage time penalty, which was converted by Ollie Norwood.

Since then he has been on the periphery and it comes as no surprise that Wolves have decided on another loan spell for the striker.

Silva has, at times, divided opinion among Wolves fans, with some believing he should have been given more of a chance to impress.

But this season's efforts have led many of the gold and black faithful to believe he simply isn't cut out for the Premier League.

With a contract running until 2026, Wolves will and hope he can bag some goals and gain some confidence north of the border, and that they can recoup some of the sizeable outlay they invested to bring him to the club
