Wolves eyes are on promotion prize

Wolves won't want for anything as the club hierarchy give Nuno Espirito Santo's team everything they need to secure promotion, managing director Laurie Dalrymple has stated.

Nuno's Wolves have enjoyed a great start to the season and sit second in the table with a quarter of the campaign gone.

Twelve players joined in the summer but more could move to Molineux in January, with Wolves known to be keen to bring in a striker.

Dalrymple said everything was focused on winning promotion come next May.

"The eyes are firmly on the prize." he told the Express & Star.

"We’re firmly concentrating on the group we’ve got now, what do we need to provide for them that’s going to give them every opportunity to succeed.

"That might mean further additions in January, it might mean what can they get at Compton, equipment that makes them recover from injury quicker, etc."

A number of Wolves' star players are on loan and others such as Ruben Neves have stated Wolves is a shop window to get into the Premier League.

Dalrymple though isn't thinking that far head, saying this season is all they're concentrating on.

"From a footballing sense we’re concentrating squarely on this season and ensuring we’ve got a group that’s strong enough to get out – and we think we have,” he added.

“If we don’t get out this season I think we’ll still be in a position whereby we can continue with the group we’ve got. Equally as Jeff Shi said at the (fans’) parliament, when we get to the end of the season we might have to take a complete helicopter view of the squad anyway.

“It could be some of the players who’ve started with a great level of performance have massively tailed off.

“I wouldn’t get too hung up on ‘if we don’t get out what are we going to do next year’."

Shi’s relocated from China in the summer and now works full time at Compton Park, after splitting his time between Wolverhampton and China last season.

Dalrymple believes this has helped improve the club.

"It’s definitely made a positive impact," he said. "We spoke regularly anyway, whether it’s Whatsapp or phonecalls or whatever, but I don’t think you can replace physically having face time with someone.

“If you want to just walk into someone’s office and say here’s a challenge or a problem – and that’s particularly pertinent in the transfer window.

“There’s still an eight hour time difference (with China) and he could have been in other meetings.

“To have him here specifically focusing on the task in hand and to have his unequivocal 24/7 support – to me, Nuno, Kev (Thelwell) and the group – has definitely helped. And I think it’s been a contributing factor, internally at least, to us being in a better place."
