Molineux factor so vital for Nuno at Wolves

Nuno Espirito Santo says Wolves’ home form is crucial for the ‘stability’ of his new team – as he welcomed back-to-back opening wins.

Successive victories and clean sheets against Middlesbrough and Yeovil have got Wolves’ campaign off to the ideal start.

Nuno has become the first Wolves manager/head coach since Colin Lee way back in 1998 to win both of his first matches in charge.

And he was pleased to come through Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie against opposition that set up to frustrate Wolves – something he’s expecting to see more of this season.

“We should find more opponents like this, that are well-organised, a good team fighting for each ball,” the Wolves boss said. “It’s up to us to build and try to make possession and score.

“We’re pleased – it was important to make a good start at home.

“We treated the Leicester (pre-season game, also a 1-0 win) match like a competition game.

“The home factor is very important for the stability of the team.

“We want to, no matter what opponent, keep on playing like we do whether it’s a Championship opponent or League Two – it’s us fighting against an opponent and breaking them. We are pleased (with the start) but we will never be happy because we have to work a lot to improve, make the boys grow as players and become a tough team.”

Nouha Dicko was Tuesday’s match-winner as he continued the promising form he showed in pre-season.

Nuno believes a full pre-season has done the 25-year-old the world of good.

“Pre-season for every player is a very important moment,” he added. “It’s like filling up a bottle of water – each day you don’t put some water in that bottle you’re going to miss it for the rest of the season.

"He was able to fill his bottle like everybody. We count on every player in the squad.”
