Solbakken in chase for Sako at Wolves
Wolves were today edging closer to keeping star winger Bakary Sako at Molineux.
Sako ruled himself out of Saturday's 3-1 win at Port Vale after telling head coach Kenny Jackett he "wasn't in the right frame of mind to play".
He was expected to leave on transfer deadline day but as the clock ticked down towards the 11pm cut-off point his options were appearing to dwindle.
Long-time admirers Fulham and Nottingham Forest continue to be put off by Wolves' £4m price-tag.
Late interest in the 25-year-old from former Wolves boss Stale Solbakken at FC Copenhagen appears to have stalled.
Solbakken would be only willing to pay closer to £1m for the player he brought to the West Midlands from St Etienne in a £2.2m deal 12 months ago.
Forest had a bid of around £2.5m rejected last week, and this afternoon the chances of them upping the offer closer to Wolves' asking price were diminishing.
Jackett said: "We had an offer from Nottingham Forest which was nowhere near our valuation.
"We're not close to agreeing a fee. But there's some speculation, he's aware of the interest and he wasn't in the right frame of mind to play. Those were his words, not mine."
As Wolves awaited developments on Sako, Leicester made a move for Kevin Doyle – as Foxes striker Martyn Waghorn was linked with a switch in the opposite direction.
But the move seems a doomed one as it's highly unlikely Leicester would be prepared to pay Doyle's £40,000-a-week wages.
And not only is the 29-year-old unwilling to take a pay cut, but he doesn't want to leave Molineux.
Wolves have held talks about taking Waghorn, who is out of favour at City but this afternoon a deal was not close.
But although it's understood Wolves entered the final day of the transfer window looking to make one more signing, a deal is not close to being done for the former Sunderland striker who was linked to Jackett at Millwall.
Meanwhile, Wolves new signing Scott Golbourne, who replaced Sako at Vale Park, came off on Saturday with a minor back injury which could keep him out of tomorrow's Johnstone Paints Trophy tie at home to Walsall.
