‘Want to prove’: Shrewsbury Town loanee’s big ambition after opening his account

First goal done - now Shrewsbury Town loan starlet Kian McMahon-Brown wants more.

Teenage loan starlet Kian McMahon-Brown is out to prove he belongs after opening his Shrewsbury Town account.

The 18-year-old impressed and played a key role in Town’s win over Northampton Town on Saturday, lashing home his first goal since arriving on loan from Burnley.

It capped a perfect home debut for the youngster, whose spell at Shrewsbury marks his first taste of senior EFL football, and he is determined to show what he can do and kick on.

“I want to prove that I’m up to the standard, up to this level,” McMahon-brown told the Shropshire Star.

“And to do what I was brought here to do - score goals. Hopefully I can push on from here now and score a few more and help the team out as much as possible.

“I said it to a few of the lads, as soon as you get the first goal you can push on from there.

“It was a nice first goal. But this is in the past now, hopefully I can push on and get a few more and help the team out.”

The Republic of Ireland youth international pointed to his mum in the stands as he celebrated his early strike after she had predicted he would score.

The youngster hailed scoring his first Shrewsbury goal in front of his family, who have watched him and driven him around the country since he was young, as a “special moment”.

And he hopes it will be the first of many for Salop this season.

“I don’t give too much of it away but I’ve got a target in mind, and hopefully by the end of the season I can be past that,” he added.

“It’s not just about goals. But that is my job, that’s what I strive for, that’s what I love doing. I love scoring goals, it’s the best feeling in the world.

“It’s just a case of just performing as well, and scoring goals is always a bonus.”

McMahon-Brown arrived at Salop after impressing in Burnley’s academy, where he won the club’s academy player of the year award last season, before being involved with the first team during pre-season.

And the teenager hopes to emerge from his Shrewsbury loan spell a better player.

He said: “I hope I’ve taken my game to another level. I feel like each day in training I’m seeing a difference playing with the senior lads.

“It’s been a good challenge. It’s a lot more physical, there’s a lot more duels to be competing for.

“But I feel like when I get on the ball I can show my quality. Ultimately that’s what I’m here to do - get on the ball and show my quality. Thankfully it paid off (on Saturday).”
