Gavin Cowan’s humorous response to Shrewsbury Town injury fears
Cowan was asked about Kevin Berkoe and Jay Turner-Cooke after both were withdrawn against Northampton Town.
Shrewsbury Town boss Gavin Cowan eased any injury fears over Kevin Berkoe and Jay Turner-Cooke.
The pair required treatment before being substituted in the second half of Salop’s 2-0 win over Northampton Town at the Meadow.
Turner-Cooke appeared to be clutching his hamstring, while Berkoe took a heavy tackle to the leg and was left hobbling. But Cowan has confirmed both players are fine.
He said: “I don’t think it’s anything a cuddle wouldn’t solve. I think a nice little cuddle and they will be all right.”
Berkoe scored Town’s second goal - his first for the club since joining in January - while Turner-Cooke returned to the starting XI and impressed in midfield.
Asked for an update on the duo, Cowan added: “Yeah, all good. I just think it’s testament to the hard work, the desire, and doing a job-and-a-half all over the pitch.
“What I was pleased about today is certain players have been trying to get on the ball and trying to make things happen. But you have to earn the right first, against a team like Northampton who have been really competitive so far this season.
“You have to earn it. You can't just go out and just start thinking you can play football in front of them.
“You have to stretch the opposition. You have to work hard to win your duels and win your battles, and then you have to earn the right to play football. And they did that today.”
