Shrewsbury Town boss ‘not surprised’ after Northampton win
Gavin Cowan’s reaction after Shrewsbury Town beat Northampton Town.
Gavin Cowan said he was “not surprised” after his Shrewsbury Town side clicked into gear to secure back-to-back home wins.
Town claimed their second League Two victory of the season with a 2-0 win over Northampton Town.
It came after a difficult start to the campaign for Shrewsbury, but Cowan said he had seen signs of improvement in recent weeks and was not surprised by the result.
He said: “It’s brilliant to get three points. Recent weeks have been frustrating, but I just think it was not too dissimilar to previous weeks.
“We have to block out the outside noise a little bit, because everybody gets emotional around the results, which are obviously of the utmost importance.
“But you just saw the lads there today be dominant in both boxes, and that was the difference.
“Then once we start to be dominant and we get the early goal then, or the relatively early goal, we grow in confidence.

“That’s the one I talk about in previous weeks, that’s the difference, that’s what you see there. So, it’s not too dissimilar, not surprising for me, I’ve not seen it coming.”
Kian McMahon-Brown and Kevin Berkoe fired Town into a two-goal lead before half-time, which they held on to comfortably after the break.
After a testing start to the new season, Cowan said he and his players have remained focused on their work rather than any outside noise.
He continued: “Myself and the staff, the players, we’ve blocked out the outside world and we’ve just stayed professional. We’ve known it was coming, so it’s not a surprise for us.
“It’s a team coming together now. Obviously, there’s a lot of new players, a very young squad, but they are starting to gel, starting to click somewhat. And now they need to go and back that up in future weeks.”
