‘Dave’s in the 10’ - Gavin Cowan makes light-hearted joke about Shrewsbury Town selection
Gavin Cowan hinted at chances for others as Town look ahead to next season
Boss Gavin Cowan made a light-hearted joke that he and Dave Edwards could line up for Shrewsbury Town this weekend.
Speaking to the media ahead of Town’s trip to Crawley Town, Cowan admitted there is now an opportunity for some players to come into the side after safety has been secured.
However, he insisted they will travel to Crawley looking to be the “best Shrewsbury Town” they can be as they aim to finish the season strongly.
When asked about potential opportunities for players who have not had as many minutes, including Isaac Lee - who is yet to make his debut - Cowan joked that he and assistant Dave Edwards, both former players, could pull on the shirt again.
“Dave's playing in the 10 and I'm going to play centre half,” he said, joking. “We're going to change it around a little bit.
“No, we want to just go as we have been. Those players are potentially in the squad and may have a chance.
“But we have to be very focused on winning football matches. I'm not going to patronise anyone - we do want to look at some of these players.
“Because going into next year, we'd be foolish not to. The luxury of having it done on our terms in terms of remaining in the EFL, we can look at some of these players now.

“Players that may be coming into it that I don't have a massive knowledge of and that need to get a bit of an understanding, it would be crazy of me not to do that.
“But we need to be the best version of ourselves, as I keep saying. We want to go there and be really competitive.
“If anybody does get the chance, it's because we see the value in them. We can't just put players in there that are not to the standard. If they're in there, it's because they've earned it.”
