Town dropped out of League One's top two as goals inside the final half hour hauled the visitors level after Mat Sadler and Carlton Morris strikes had Shrewsbury looking comfortable.

Hurst's men were unable to deal with a corner for Doncaster's first of the afternoon before the equaliser was carried over his own goal line by Dean Henderson.

The boss shared similar frustration after the 113th minute strike that denied his side at West Ham's London Stadium last Tuesday, where Shrews were also unable to deal with a corner.

He said: "Against Southend someone simply loses their man and it's a free header. The others we've got the first contact on the ball.

"At West Ham Bolts (James Bolton) wins a half-decent header. In an ideal world it goes out, but it's the second parts to them.

"Against Doncaster for the first goal Abs (Abu Ogogo) thinks they're going to head it and it hits the top of his head and goes up in the air before Dean (Henderson) slips.

"I can't legislate for things like that, they happen.

"There's no doubt we've been excellent at not giving away anything that would be considered relatively cheap.

"Of late there seem to be a couple that you could perhaps put in that category."

It was just the second time in all competitions this season that Salop have conceded two goals at Montgomery Waters Meadow and the first since August 19.

Shrewsbury are now without a regulation time victory in five games in all competitions.

But the boss took positives from most of the display against in-form Roves, despite admitting the visitors' goals may have got to his players.

Hurst added: "That's the frustrating part but for me, genuinely overall, we looked a decent side today against a team in decent form themselves.

"The first-half in particular and start of the second we looked in good shape.

"I don't know if it was the mental side of it, conceding a bad goal and then a freak goal, that perhaps knocked us a little bit.

"All in all I'm not going to be too harsh on the players apart from we always want more."
