Lenell John-Lewis set to miss Plymouth clash with hamstring injury

Town striker Lenell John-Lewis is likely to miss Saturday's visit to Plymouth after picking up a hamstring injury.

The ex-Grimsby striker injured his hamstring during last week's 3-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion's under-23s in the Checkatrade Trophy, where he scored Town's opener.

The 28-year-old has scored twice for Paul Hurst's Town since his free transfer move from Newport County this summer. He scored Town's winner on the opening day of the League One season against Northampton from the bench.

And John-Lewis has made numerous other cameos for Hurst's side, where he has helped see Shrewsbury over the line with some impressive displays.

"This weekend could be a game too early for Lenny, and if it is then we'll look at Bristol Rovers on the Tuesday," said Hurst.

"That was one we would've preferred not to have lost.

"It was his hamstring. He felt it in the game when we scored against Albion under-21s. He scored a goal and hit the post, he's enjoyed every minute he's stepped out for us. It's a little frustrating for him but giving the injuries he's had in the last couple of seasons it is a very minor one.

"Fingers crossed he won't be out for a lengthy period."

John-Lewis missed almost the entirety of last season for Newport with a serious knee injury.

Winger Shaun Whalley came from the bench against Walsall last Saturday on his way back from a slight groin complaint. Town have had Bryn Morris and Joe Riley return from lengthy lay-offs in recent weeks. The duo have boosted the options at Hurst's disposal.

The boss added: "Overall, when you look at it – as a manager you expect two players in the treatment room – we're OK on that front, we don't have a long list of injuries and hopefully that'll continue."
