The ex-Middlesbrough starlet and former England youth captain starred in Shrews' vital win over Rochdale, landing the man of the match award for his high-energy display in the heart of midfield, where he also displayed a host of neat touches.

The 20-year-old signed a January deal that runs until the summer after leaving boyhood club Boro of the Premier League, where he struggled to break into then-boss Aitor Karanka's first-team squad.

Morris has featured 10 times under Paul Hurst since his move, including five starts, and is enjoying regular football in a bid to earn another Greenhous Meadow deal, the challenge laid onto him by Town's boss.

"Obviously I'm playing a bit more now and I've never had this experience before, I'm relishing it," he said. "Every time you go out it's massive.

"Luckily we've got three points, I really enjoyed it. It's nice to get man of the match but it's about the three points.

"It was a massive win for us. It wasn't pretty but we ground out a win, it was really tough with the sun, it really took it out of some of us, sapping your energy."

Morris hailed match-winner Stefan Payne's impact, while the midfielder did not lack an eye for goal himself, sending three efforts narrowly off-target.

"He's stuck at it," added Morris of Payne's pursuit for a first Salop goal. "He's had to be patient for it but he's scored now and it's massive for him and massive for the team, hopefully he can continue now.

"He had a lot of time to think about it and showed good composure, I'm pleased for him.

"He's obviously working hard in training and does it all the time in training. That's his account open and he can get a few more.

"I had a couple of chances, volleyed one over and hopefully I'll get the first and a couple more will come!"
