Shrewsbury Town supporters have voted in favour of manager Micky Mellon's rebuilding programme with season ticket sales up on this time last year.

Boss Mellon has been busy bolstering his squad with former Coventry City winger Jim O'Brien the seventh summer recruit at Greenhous Meadow.

Chief executive Brian Caldwell revealed Town have now sold just under 3,000 season tickets.

The club are now looking forward to the start of their new League One season at home to relegated Milton Keynes Dons on August 6.

Caldwell said: "We're actually just ahead of where we were last year. It's been a pleasant surprise, that in the last couple of weeks we've now gone over the levels of last year.

"Last year the club had just been promoted, so there's always a bit of real positivity about the place. But it shows supporters are buying in as well and can see we're trying to move forward."

After MK Dons, Town face back-to-back trips to two of League One's biggest stadiums as they head to Coventry on August 13 before a midweek trip to relegated Charlton three days later.
