AFC Telford United handed their home supporters the perfect Christmas present by going third in the Skrill Conference North after beating Brackley Town.

The visiting Saints led for most of the game at the New Bucks Head through Charlie Griffin's simple first-half finish and on-target chances had been scarce.

But the Bucks were given a helping hand with an equaliser from the penalty spot, Sean Clancy converting, before substitute Adam Farrell's late winner, all inside the last 13 minutes.

Telford first threatened the Brackley box with just five minutes gone, Mat Bailey heading wide of the target from an inviting cross in by right-back Wes Baynes.

Tony Gray worked his way into a goalscoring position a minute later after cutting inside to have the beating of the defence, but Glenn Walker recovered to rob him before he could pull the trigger.

There was a let-off for the visitors on 11 minutes when Tom Sharpe handled inside the box, but referee Ian Hussin waved away appeals for a penalty.

Very little of note for the goalkeepers had happened before Griffin popped up to apply the finish on 17 minutes, Ryan Young left rooted to the spot as he slotted to his left.

Walker's cross from the right, where Charlie Barnett had lost track of him, was flighted along the box and into the path of the unmarked Griffin.

He fired wide when he threatened again just before the half hour, while the ball ran agonisingly loose at the other end in the 34th minute.

Matthew McGinn's long throw from the left was headed across goal by Neill Byrne and goalkeeper Billy Turley spilled the catch, but the pressuring Mike Grogan couldn't force the ball in.

Clancy nearly scored a spectacular solo goal on 39 minutes, leaving Eddie Odhiambo for dead on the left wing with a turn to cut inside, but his effort fizzed over the far post.

Telford threw on Farrell and Andy Owens for strike pairing Bailey and Tony Gray with the second-half just seven minutes old.

But it was McGinn who nearly forced the equaliser only to curl his effort wide of the post, while Baynes had to make a goal-saving tackle from Walker.

The leveller finally came from the spot with 13 minutes to go, after Odhiambo was penalised and booked for bringing down Grogan.

Up stepped Clancy, who went for power to hammer his effort off the underside of the crossbar and into the net.

And if the 1,351 in attendance were pleased by that, they raised the roof for Farrell's 84th minute winner, the replacement another to blast the ball home and seal three precious points.
