With Karl Henry's two-match ban up after tonight's game, attack-minded pair Edwards and Jones linked up in the centre for Saturday's 1-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday.

They played well together, winning the battle for supremacy against James O'Connor and Sean McAllister on a difficult, bobbly pitch.

Former Shrewsbury Town man Edwards and Jones have joined forces in the centre only once before, in the 2-0 home win against Blackpool to make it a 100 per cent return and two clean sheets when they have linked up.

Ballwinner Henry is available again for Saturday's home clash with Charlton, but Edwards says it's no problem for him and Jones curbing their instincts to go forward.

"People make a lot more fuss out of this than there is," said the versatile Edwards, who has also lined up at right-back, right midfield and as a second striker this season.

"I don't need to change my game – it takes half a second to glance across to Dave and if he's holding his position, then I can go forward and vice-versa. It's a simple thing.

The pair also have the endorsement of boss Mick McCarthy. "Dave Edwards and Dave Jones in the middle of the park looked really solid," he said.
