WHY SPEAK ILL OF DEAD PEOPLE?

I have noticed that many stories are being hyped, to increase book sales no doubt, about 'Royal Secrets'. Stories from sources claim that our late Queen, 'knew' about her son's sexual antics and his, and his wife's, debts, that Prince Philip had affairs during his married life. Too boring to list here.

A couple of things puzzle me though – why wait until after the death of the named person before revealing this 'truth' to the world? I don't know the answer to that save one pertinent point, you cannot slander or libel a dead person. That's a principle of our law, there is of course the other reason.... if that person were alive they could, of course, defend themselves in court.

Like I wrote earlier, is this just extra scandal to help hype book sales? I don't know but I do, like most people, wonder why these authors waited before writing their stories.
