Princess Eugenie was brimming with emotions during a Buckingham Palace garden party – wearing a hat decorated with the word “love”.

Eugenie is due to marry fiance Jack Brookbank in the autumn and appeared to be making an emotional statement with her unusual headgear.

She wore a dark-coloured dress during the garden party hosted by the Queen, and a matching hat, which had the word ‘love’ above the brim.

The princess began dating the brand ambassador of Casamigos Tequila about seven years ago after they met while skiing near the Swiss resort of Verbier.

Eugenie, who is due to marry in the autumn, was matched in the fashion stakes by the Queen who wore an outfit and hat designed by Angela Kelly which fittingly was royal blue and turquoise in colour.

The Queen also wore sunglasses, for the second time in recent
weeks when attending garden party, and carried an umbrella following forecasts of thunderstorms.

She was joined by her grandson the Duke of Cambridge who suggested threatened UK swimming pools might be protected by an organisation similar to a charity he heads which safeguards green spaces.

William discussed the issue during the garden party when he chatted with senior figures from two organisations he is associated with which rely heavily on pools for their activities.

The second-in-line to the throne told representatives from the English Schools Swimming Association and the British Sub-Aqua Club that he would look at an idea similar to the Fields in Trust body, he supports as president, and get back to them.
