Jury selected in trial of teenager charged with acid murder of nurse
Joanne Rand died in Stoke Mandeville hospital 11 days after allegedly being splashed with a chemical last June.
A jury panel has been selected to try the case of a teenager charged with the murder of a nurse who died after having acid thrown over her.
Joanne Rand, 47, was allegedly splashed with a chemical on June 3 last year, in Frogmoor, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.
She died in Stoke Mandeville Hospital 11 days later.
She worked at the Sir Aubrey Ward care home in Marlow and was “hard-working and passionate about her job”.
Xeneral Webster, of Westway, west London, is on trial at Reading Crown Court.
The 19-year-old is charged with murder, attempted grievous bodily harm, two counts of possession of an offensive weapon relating to an acid, a further count of possession of an offensive weapon relating to a lethally adapted samurai sword, threats to kill, criminal damage and robbery.
Prosecutor Alison Hunter QC is expected to open the case at 11am on Wednesday.
A jury of 12 with two spare jurors will be sworn before the opening.
