The nervous wait is over as students found out their A-Level results at schools across the land.

Encouragingly, the proportion of A-level students scoring the highest grades has risen for the first time in six years and with a 2% drop in people accepting UK degree courses, students could still end up at university even if they did not attain the results they wanted.

Boys also outperformed girls for the first time with A and A* grades for the first time.
