Shrewsbury flags protest: March and counter-protest under way with heavy police presence
Raise The Flags Shrewsbury Plus and counter protesters from Stand Up To Racism Shropshire are back in the Quarry
Another protest organised by people responsible for hanging flags on lamp posts in Shrewsbury is under way.
Raise The Flags Shrewsbury Plus is running its fourth demonstration in the town centre.
Each protest has featured aggressive and racist chanting, with community events in the town centre being cancelled due to the most recent march.

This time, the flags group met near the blue gates at the top of the Quarry, before marching around the town. They then intend to hold an after-party with a “charity penalty shoot-out” at an undisclosed location.
Their promotional material does not state which charity will benefit. So far, Raise The Flags Shrewsbury Plus has garnered more than £10,000 in donations for its activities.
Counter protesters from Stand Up To Racism Shropshire and Telford are also in attendance.

The most recent protest on July 4 saw the two opposing groups facing off along a narrow path, posturing and shouting while police officers stood between them.
