Leader ready for Shropshire Council cabinet shake-up
A shake-up could see up to three further members leave Shropshire Council’s cabinet by the end of the month.
The move is expected to be confirmed within the next two weeks by council leader Councillor Peter Nutting.
It is not known who is expected to leave the cabinet, but plans are understood to already be in place to prepare the new members for their roles.
Councillor Nutting has confirmed he is looking at a shake-up.
He said: “There will be some movement later this month. I have been thinking about it and working out some options and will make an announcement soon.
“There are a lot of talented young councillors and I am always looking to inject fresh blood into the cabinet.”
It comes just weeks after councillor Joyce Barrow, member for St Oswald, stepped down citing “family commitments” and was replaced by councillor Gwilym Butler.
Councillor Barrow held the post of portfolio holder for communities, waste and regulatory services.

And Councillor Nic Laurens, member for Meole, stepped down at the end of last year with his role still vacant and Councillor Nutting mulling over his options for a replacement.
When announcing her decision to step down, Councillor Barrow said: “I am immensely proud of the services changes, innovations and improvements we have made during that time.
“I have always focused on what I feel is right for the people and places we are here to serve and my role has brought me into contact with a wide range of inspiring and creative people and businesses across Shropshire.
“The role of a cabinet member requires a full time focus and commitment and due to my increasing family commitments I have decided that the time has now come for me to rebalance my commitments.
“This has not been an easy decision to make and I fully intend to continue to play a full part in supporting the ambitious programme of activity we have developed and are implementing.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those officers and member colleagues who have supported me since taking office.”
Councillor Nutting said he was thankful for Councillor Barrow’s service.
He said he was not in a rush to implement the changes but it is expected they will be in place by the end of March.
