Mountain biker stretchered to ambulance with 'significant' leg injury after crash

The rider was stretchered to an ambulance and taken for treatment

An injured mountain biker was rescued from a popular site by a search and rescue team.

The biker had injured their lower leg at Coed Llandegla Forest, near Llangollen.

A team from North East Wales Search and Rescue (NEWSAR) was called to assist by police, and took the biker down to the road by stretcher to be taken for treatment.

A spokesman for the team explained: “On Wednesday evening, the team was requested by North Wales Police to assist an injured mountain biker at Coed Llandegla Forest.

“With limited information initially available, the team quickly established the casualty’s location and began making plans to reach and evacuate them.

“With a strong turnout of team members already heading towards Wednesday night training, NEWSAR was able to deploy quickly and work alongside One Planet and Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust.

“The casualty had sustained a significant lower leg injury, and he and his friend sensibly made the decision to call for assistance rather than attempt to self-rescue.

“Team members provided treatment before carefully extracting the casualty, using a single-line rope system to protect the evacuation through the difficult terrain.

“He was then safely handed over to WAST at the road for onward treatment. We wish the casualty a full and speedy recovery.”
