Aston Martin confirms development of new hypercar

Codenamed ‘003’, the British firm’s next machine will be a direct descendent of the Valkyrie — and limited to just 500 units

Aston Martin has confirmed it is working on a new, ultra-limited hypercar that directly descends from its flagship Valkyrie.

Set to come to market in the latter half of 2021, just 500 examples of the car — codenamed ‘003’ — will be made.

The mid-engined machine will use a turbocharged petrol-electric powertrain, mounted in the middle of the car. Accompanying it will be the usual hypercar tech — including active aerodynamics and trick suspension.

Expect to hear more technical specs as the launch of the car nears, although Aston has said it is being designed to offer ‘more practical concessions for road use’, including luggage space.

With the high-performance Valkyrie heading into production imminently, project ‘003’ will be the second mid-engined machine from Aston Martin. Don’t expect it to rival the Valkryie’s performance, though — rather be a descendent of the car.

Andy Palmer, Aston Martin Lagonda Group president and chief executive, said: “It was always the intention for the Aston Martin Valkyrie to be a once-in-a lifetime project.

“However, it was also vital to us that Valkyrie would create a legacy: a direct descendent that would also set new standards within its own area of the hypercar market, creating a bloodline of highly specialised, limited production machines that can exist in parallel with Aston Martin’s series production models.

“I’m thrilled to announce that this car is the Project ‘003’, and our next step into a dynamic and exacting arena.”
