Nissan executive apologises for inspections scandal
The Nissan inspections scandal has seen production halt and shares drop, causing continued pains for the brand.

Nissan head of global sales and marketing division Daniele Schillaci bowed deeply to the crowds at the car maker’s Tokyo Motor Show press conference today to apologise for the recent findings that vehicles for its home market were being checked by uncertified staff.
“I would like to take this opportunity to express a sincere apology for our recent issues. We sincerely regret any inconvenience and concern this has caused to our valued customers,” he said.
Nissan has now formed an investigative team with a third party, which Schillaci explained was working to find out what happened and why.
Already it has issued recalls on one million cars, and a week ago the car maker halted production of all vehicles at Japanese plants. Currently this is not thought to affect cars for export and these have continued to be made.
Schillaci added: “In addition we are making a concerted company-wide effort to prevent a recurrence. While we have no additional information to share at this time, we thank you very much for your continued understanding and support.”
