Dog's Health Shop has opened a sensory play area called 'The Sniffari Room' above its store in Newport, full of treats for the animals to hunt out and enjoy.

The launch comes just three months after owner Nigel Paskin moved from the town's indoor market to launch his first standalone brick-and-mortar store since establishing the business in 2018.

Nigel told the Shropshire Star he was keen to monetise the vacant space above the store in Stafford Street.

"I initially wanted a dog groomer but unfortunately there's no running water in the shop so that was a 'no'," he said.

"My wife came up with the idea of some kind of play area and together we decided on a sensory room. There aren't any others in Shropshire so we had to do a lot of research on the internet.

"There are puzzles, games and toys to play with and 120 hidden natural treats which the dog has to work to find. They are using their sense of smell to sniff them out.

"There is also special lighting and background noises from the Amazon jungle which brings another sensory perspective - the room stimulates all their senses."
