Cheerforce Ten cheerleading academy, which is based at Ketley Business Park, picked up 17 first place prizes, five second, one third and one fourth place in the British Cheerleading Association's Winter Weekender in Blackpool.

The academy, which was launched in 2011 by Rachael Swinnerton, also took home seven grand champion prizes which are awarded to the competitors at the top of their age division.

The competition, which was held at Norbreck Castle Hotel on December 9 and 10, involved stunt and dance routines.

Ms Swinnerton said: "They smashed it.

"It was a big competition so it was pretty amazing.

"It was a record amount of grand champions won at a British Cheerleading Association regional competition.

"Our next competition is in Worcester and then we have one at the Genting Arena in Brimingham before the national championships in Telford."

The cheerleading academy teaches all ages and abilities and has plenty of spaces available for any children aged between six and nine who would like to join.

Ms Swinnerton said: "Cheerleading helps build confidence, makes people work as a team and is good for fitness. We also teach the kids life lessons."

Anyone interested can look at the academy's Facebook page or email cf10believe@hotmail.com for more information.

Ms Swinnerton also recently picked up the Inspirational Activity Leader award at the 2017 West Midlands Community Sports Awards.
