A report to the meeting at the Guildhall includes results from an inquiry by the Housing, Communities and Local Government committee on High Streets and Town Centres in 2030.

It says high streets and town centres will survive and thrive if they adapt, becoming activity-based community gathering places where retail is a smaller part of a wider range of uses and activities.

Town councillors will look at suggestions from the committee including a reduction in business rates and a 12-month holiday from rates increases with the money invested in property.
