Christmas is coming – and once again we’re asking our big-hearted family of readers to help bring a smile to youngsters who might be facing a difficult time over the festive season.

Once again we’re teaming up with our partners at Storage King for our Christmas Toy Appeal.

It is the third year running we have joined forces for the appeal, which has distributed more than 2,000 gifts to the needy since it was launched.

This year we are supporting five different good causes which give support to children who will be spending Christmas under difficult circumstances.

The Movement Centre, based at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital in Gobowen, provides pioneering therapy for youngsters with mobility problems, while The Harry Johnson Trust supports youngsters who are suffering from cancer, as well as their brothers and sisters who can also find it a distressing time.

We are also working with Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals Trust, to bring a little festive cheer to youngsters who will be receiving treatment at this time of year. Hope House children’s hospice in Gobowen cares for children with life-limiting conditions, while we are also collecting for Telford & Wrekin children’s services.

We are asking readers to donate brand new toys, books and games for children of all ages, with gifts for teenagers particularly welcome.

We have collection points at the Shropshire Star offices in Telford, Shrewsbury and Oswestry, as well as at Storage King’s base at Battlefield Enterprise Park in Shrewsbury.

Darren Hall, regional support manager at Storage King in Shrewsbury, said he was delighted to be teaming up with the Shropshire Star once again for such a worthy cause.

“It’s a great opportunity to work with the Shropshire Star to help kids who are less fortunate, and might either be away from home at this time of year, or might not get much in the way of toys or that sort of thing.

“Storage King is very keen on supporting the communities of Shropshire, and the charities we are helping this year will be able to make great use of the toys that are donated.”

Shropshire Star editor Martin Wright said the appeal had shown just how generous people in and around the county are.

“It has been amazing how the people of Shropshire have got behind this appeal,” he said.

“It has been a privilege to have played a role in helping so many youngsters around the county, and hugely rewarding watching the toys coming in.”
